Batch '65 Holds Grand Reunion

Report by MLQHS Class of 1965

The MLQHS Batch ’65 celebrated and reminisced the good old days of high school life during the Grand Reunion held on 27 January 2007 at the Figueroa’s Rest House in Tagaytay City. The excitement and happiness warmed the atmosphere of the cold breeze in Tagaytay with the presence of 52 batchmates and 4 teachers, namely: Ms. Agustina Medel, Ms. Virginia Lazo-Padaoan, Ms. Nena Ople and Ms. Adoracion Flores. Out of 56 attendees, 13 were balikbayan (11 batchmates and 2 teachers) from the USA, Canada and The Netherlands.

The whole day affair began at 5:30am as the tourist bus enroute to Tagaytay City started to pick-up attendees in Caltex Gas Station along EDSA, Pasay City and in Petron Gas Station along South Luzon Expressway. Everyone was thrilled to see each other, not knowing the name of who he or she meets after almost 42 years. Only the words, “who are you?” “Can’t recognize you!” then, after revealing the name, a tight hug and laughter filled the air at that moment. Everybody acted like a child who had just seen a long lost playmate.

Five minutes after the bus unloaded the passengers at the beautiful rest house in Tagaytay, the program began. The one-day affair included the following activities: Sought the blessing of our Lord thru a prayer followed by a welcome message from the President of Batch ’65, then the introduction of oneself while his/her photo in class of 1965 is zoomed and shown on the wide screen, group singing, audio-visual presentation of Batch ’65 high school life, tribute to the 4 teacher-attendees, short messages from the 4 teachers, 2 dance numbers, parlor games, trivia and raffle draw of door/cash prizes donated by balikbayan classmates.

Everybody was delighted with the native food and drinks served during the morning snack, lunch and merienda cena. Nobody cares of the effects these foods would bring to the figures and health condition of the ladies and gentlemen, respectively.

The grand day ended up with fireworks at about 6:30pm.

Moreover, the organizing group had prepared something for the balikbayan batchmates. It was a post reunion overnight stay at Canyon Woods in Tagaytay City the following day. Before the balikbayans started leaving the country, a dinner treat was given to them. That night ended up with a farewell party of singing and dancing at a videoke bar in Makati. Tears of joy and sorrow highlighted the “good-bye” portion. Nobody seemed to let go of each other’s embrace. That was the hardest part…bidding good byes!
